Field Notes

Description:

Gray to tan dove with black stripe on neck. There was a pair of them calling to each other. Last image shows both of them. I haven't seen this species in the area before.

Habitat:

Utility pole in backyard.

That's sad about the Mourning Doves. I have one sitting on a nest right now in the backyard. I hope these visitors don't push her out!
They are rapidly expanding their range in California. I never see any Mourning Doves in my neighborhood anymore because of them.
