Field Notes

Description:

Growing out of the leaf litter in my back garden. Perennial Herb 2 to 20 inch tall. Leaves: Basal. Flowers: Ray Yellow, numerous, linear, fertile on leafless scaly stems. (Plant introduced from Europe)

Habitat:

Disturbed woodland in Eastern North America and Canada.

Notes:

Genus name denotes latin tussis (cough) used medicinally to help clear coughs. (banned in Europe as food due to plant contains alkaloids.
