Description:
The smallest of sandpipers at 6.5 inches, or about the size of a large sparrow, the least sandpiper is quite common and often seen flocking with other small sandpipers or "peeps" during migration when it's breeding plumage is still visible. They are easily identifiable by their yellow legs
Habitat:
Bandon Beach, foraging in a small freshwater spring
Notes:
There were two and not paying any attention to us or the many people who walked by oblivious to them. We even tried to point them out to a woman walking the beach with her nose pressed to her phone and she didn't even respond. Fortunately, she didn't cause them to fly. Only when we were back on the bluffs and someone started splashing toward them(deliberately?) in the puddle did they fly away
