Field Notes

Description:

Large insect. Big eyes. Flattened, leaf-like body.

Habitat:

Narrowly missed being run over by cars entering my office as it lay on the driveway. Initially I thought it had been crushed. Then I realized it was hurt maybe but not dead....so I carried it to the lily pool and sprinkled a few drops of water on it. Left it there...it was gone by evening. Did it fly away? Did the birds get it? The guards had noted my action with amusement but had not paid any more attention to the bug after I left.

Notes:

Tentative ID. Will be happy to be corrected. Have seen it( or its cousins) on TLC channel. Know it is edible in many parts of the world. Certainly big enough for a couple of bites.
