Field Notes

Description:

Large red centipede (about 5 inches long) with black stripes

Notes:

I was sitting in front of a bungalow at Lake Toba in Sumatra Indonesia. I heard a scratching sound behind me, and found this centipede on the windowsill behind my chair, scratching on the wood. I carefully knocked it off the windowsill with a flip-flop (I didn't want to hurt it, but I didn't want it to go into my room either), then tried to take a photo of it before it ran into a crack in the sidewalk. It moved fast and I couldn't get a great picture.
