Field Notes
Description:
The lesser earless lizard is found in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming, as well as in the Mexican states of Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sinaloa, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León.
Habitat:
Sandy desert
Notes:
The interesting thing about this subspecies of the lesser earless lizard is that it has adapted to live within the confines of White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. It has taken on a white appearance to match the substrate color, which allows it to move fairly undetected. HUGE kudos to my wife for spotting this lizard! :-)
