Field Notes

Description:

Light yellow/white mushroom
Ridged edges
Gets darker yellow towards the center of the mushroom top

Habitat:

Deep in forest
Receives little sunlight
Surrounded by pine needles and other, smaller mushrooms
Attached to dark, rich soil abundant with worms

Nice spotting Jamie! I hope someone can ID it for you. Thanks for the description -it tells us that the mushroom was probably growing under pines- an important factor. Two other things we need for an ID is a shot of the fertile surface i.e underside of cap - gills or pores and a shot of the stem ( to base if possible). I use a mirror and angle it so I get a good view -not always best but it works, especially when the stalk is very short and you don't want to damage the cap. Thanks again for your notes.
