Great thing is they have no real insects that will bother them. So, easy to grow, easy to maintain. But, yes, spreader for sure. If there is even a small piece of a rhizome left it will grow and spread. You can put it in pots and put it in water gardens as well. But you do want it in the pot to contain it.

There are actually a few species of horsetail (or snake grass) that are native to the U.S.

This is quite invasive if not kept in a planter. It is used a lot in Southern California because it is a very dramatic accent in the garden.
