Field Notes

Description:

brown with darker head and white spot on cheek and end of beak - female surf scoter perhaps?

Habitat:

Out on a former log pond turned sanctuary

Notes:

Interesting birding day. Saw a ring necked duck, meadowlarks and what had to be a gyrfalcon. I was so stunned at the last one I just stood there with my jaw dropped and camera in hand

Species ID Suggestions

Melanitta deglandi

That was my second choice. Wish I'd gotten a better photo(light was horrible and bird far away)
