Field Notes

Description:

Super cute about 10mm tall case made with regular scale shapes around a small cone.

Habitat:

On eucalyptus leaf in a local nature and games reserve.

Notes:

Maybe Ribbed Case Moth - Hyalarcta nigrescens or may never know. Many of these are adept at utilising whatever plant they are currently occupying although the beginnings of ribs seem to be there. <br> Another example of H.nigrescens with debris on its case.. https://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_casemoths/RibbedCaseMoth.htm

Cool spotting, Mark. Very Disneyesque! That would make someone a lovely hat! ;)
Done Ava.. and I'm going with Hyalarcta nigrescens after reviewing all bag moths known in the area (yet again lol)
Hey Mark, Please consider adding this spotting to the Animal Architecture mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8082378
Thanks Jae. Also thanks Orni for the suggestion but if I can't see the head pattern it's not certain. H.nigrescens is definitely a good chance though.
Wonderful spotting, Mark.
