Don't know how large the feeder is exactly, but if my guess is right, then your bird should be a Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) based on size.
Looks (and description sounds) like a downy or hairy woodpecker. It's hard to tell which it is. Hairy is bigger with a bigger beak, downy is small. Other than that, they look very similar.
