Field Notes

Description:

This egret first spent time standing motionless in the tidal pool waiting for fish to pass and then plunging its beak in to get them. After a while, the bird decided to take a more active approach, stirring up mud with its yellow feet and flapping its wings to startle the fish. This was also a successful approach and a bit quicker than the stationary method.

Habitat:

Topsail Island tidal pools
