Field Notes

Description:

A cluster of fine filamentous structures about 10mm long hanging from the underside of a fallen rotting log. At the ends of these filaments were clusters of rounded dark purplish clusters. The clusters were covered with a whitish substance that had a slimy look. Beside this cluster was a dense growth of stiff thread-like hairs. Pic # 3 shows the actual size

Habitat:

tall eucalyptus forest

Notes:

I thank Alex Konig for suggestions with the ID.
I noticed some spores coming out when I touch the purplish spore sacs.

Lorenzo, these are very difficult to find. They were so small and in a dark spot - I was really lucky and also glad that I decided to take photos of them. I was amazed at the detail when I looked at the photos later.

thats not only fantastic, but also funny: look like the badhamia species (very strong possibility, to your suggestions {but fungi and slime molds very variable- therefore must a definitly identification, be done under the microscope}!!, but you guessed very well), seems to run away from the mold {cliffhanger}. thx that's made my day a little bit nicer. :)

I can't tell about the ID, Leuba, sorry. Slime molds still confuse me to the max...

Thanks very much Lars - I am so excited about this. So, is my ID correct ? - I was hoping you or Alex or Arlanda might see this and help with the ID. It was very difficult to photograph and I was covered with leeches by the time I finished !!
