Field Notes

Description:

metallic blue-black above, light grey below on the breast and belly, and rust on the forehead, throat and upper breast. It has a long forked tail, with a row of white spots on the individual feathers. The outer tail feathers (streamers) are slightly shorter in the female.

Habitat:

Coastal area ...this pair had a mud nest under the stairwell of the lighthouse.

These are such lovely little birds. There a pair here of a morning and in the late afternoon swooping after flying insects. Had a mud nest for 4 years in our tin shed. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/2733004 Although they seem to have found a new nesting spot near by.
