Field Notes

Description:

It is a small grasshopper nymph that was about 4 mm. long. The grasshopper was quite hidden hiding between some Grapefruit leaves. It is hard to identify when they are first hatched and even harder when they are many (Schistocerca) species in this area.

Habitat:

Semi-urban, Fort Worth, Texas. This one was staying hidden on a Grapefruit plant.

Notes:

Not sure of the species, could be a Gray bird grasshopper but some patterns on the legs and the antenna don't match. These (Schistocerca) Grasshoppers can be found in many places in the New World and other places like Africa and Asia where they can do lots of damage to the crops.
