Field Notes

Description:

The large orange sulphur, is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. The wingspan is 57–86 mm (2.2–3.4 in). This is the pink-white female form. The other female form is yellow-orange. The upper surface of the males is bright orange without markings.

Habitat:

Spotted feeding on flowers at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas.

Notes:

Adults feed on flower nectar, favoring lantana, shepherd's needle, bougainvillea, rose periwinkle, Turk's cap and hibiscus.[
