Field Notes

Description:

Also known as Eight-striped Butterflyfish. Feed exclusively on coral polyps, and grow to a length of about 12cm.

Habitat:

They swim in pairs in coral-rich areas of sheltered lagoons and inshore reefs; juveniles are seen in groups among Acropora coral. Depths of 3 to 20m. Widespread in the Indo-Asia Pacific region.

Notes:

Spotted these beauties at a depth of 5m, at the San Juan dive site, Samal Island, Davao, Philippines.
