Field Notes

Description:

Coleoptera; Scarabaeidae; Cetoniinae; Cetoniini; Protaetia; Protaetia fusca Herbst, 1790. I have to admit that I am a little uncertain about this one. When I first saw it, less than 2 hours ago, my immediate reaction was that it looks like P. fusca, but rather darker. Also, the light yellowish markings that I am used to seeing on P. fusca were very difficult to see on this one. So I started looking at internet images and ended up even more confused. Many of the images which look more like this specimen are labelled Protaetia acuminata, but I cannot find confirmation of acuminata being present in Philippines. I decided that it would be safer to go with Protaetia fusca.

Habitat:

Spotted when it fle into the house from the front garden.
