Rusty Millipede

The Rusty Millipede is a medium to large-sized millipede. The body is brick red in color with pale black bands on the sides. The adult grows up to 5cm in length. Millipedes have a cylindrical body with two pairs of legs on most segments, except for the first segment behind the head, which does not have any appendages at all, and the next few, which only have one pair of legs. It has commonly between 40 and 400 legs.
Millipedes range from 2 to 280 millimetres in length, and can have as few as eleven, to over a hundred segments. They are generally black or brown in colour, although there are a few brightly coloured.

The Rusty Millipede however is quite harmless and is in fact a beneficial insect that helps break down dead leaves into organic soil for plants.
