Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized 70 mm. wingspan moth in the family Sphingidae. Sharp cuts, on elongated wings; forewings having shades of brown and horizontal stripes, while the hindwings are black, with cream spots, and a walnut border. The head, thorax and abdomen are covered in tufts of hair, which are brown with vertical red stripes running downwards.

Habitat:

Suburban garden, Fort Worth, Texas.

Found in close association of Pentas, (host plant).

Notes:

Found caterpillars on Pentas and decided to rear them, to moths.
