Description:
Guavas are plants in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae) genus Psidium (meaning "pomegranate" in Latin), which contains about 100 species of tropical shrubs and small trees.
Habitat:
They are native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. Guavas are now cultivated and naturalized throughout the tropics and subtropics in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Florida and Hawaii.
Notes:
This plant and some more like it were planted in a small rural property to serve as food for birds and insects.
