Field Notes

Description:

Swifts and Pallid Swifts can be very difficult to separate when flying, especially from below when they all appear dark as the sizes overlap. The Pallid Swift is actually a paler brownish shade and has banding on the body which can just be seen on picture 2 which is a lightened version of picture 1. They also have more white on the face than a common Swift, Apus apus. Pallid Swifts are generally more commonly seen near coasts but they are often in mixed flocks where the largest ones will be Swifts and the smallest Pallids but the rest could be either,

Habitat:

Coastal marshes

Notes:

Where I have been unable to positively identify I will post as Swift with the scientific name Apus sp. which indicates the uncertainty between the 2 species.
