Field Notes

Description:

Celyphidae; Celyphus sp. This strange little fly seems to favour citrus trees. I have seen a few of these in recent years and, I think they have all been on Citrus maxima or Citrus microcarpa.

Habitat:

Spotted on a Pomelo Tree (Citrus maxima) in our front garden. This tree is locally known as Suha. Plant ID - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Suha.html

Hi Tom, thanks for your comment, nice to hear from you. Yes, your right, it was not easy to identify this one. You might be wondering why I have so little to say on this spotting when I usually say too much. It's because I made such a hash of my last Celyphidae spotting - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/714418947 If you want to have a laugh, have a look at it, especially the opening remarks of Description and then the Notes at the bottom. I have avoided doing spottings of these since then, out of embarrasment, but I have one or two more which I am preparing now to post on PN. John B.
Strange looking fly. I would of had a hard time figuring this one out.
