Field Notes

Description:

Agriocnemis femina femina is 16 to 18 mm in length. The male species has an orange and black body with blue-green abdominal tip. The sides of the thorax are also blue-green. Older species are whitish. The female damselfly is deep reddish. With age, it changes to dark green.

Habitat:

Dragonflies are extremely choosy about their habitat. They would never reside around polluted water bodies. If you happen to see dragonflies around, it is a sure sign that the ecosystem is in perfect condition. Dragonflies are sensitive to pollution.
