Field Notes

Description:

There are both light and dark morphs of this hawk. The light morph (pictured) are white below with a red/brown bib on the chest. Throat is white. The tail is grayish/brown with several dark bands. The bird's above is a patterned brown.

Habitat:

Grasslands throughout western North America.

Notes:

I found this bird near Devils Lake, North Dakota. It had just captured a bird, maybe a starling, and was sitting on this hay bale devouring it.
