Field Notes

Description:

Feeding on an endemic leptospermum sp. flowers this Lycid mimic Buptrestid beetle had to compete with many other beetle species. About 22mm long.

Habitat:

In a local national park containing a couple of acres of this ti-tree species which was mostly flowering..

Notes:

Lycid mimic Jewel beetle?. Too windy and uncooperative beetles spoiled this shot. With any luck I intend to improve it later this week. <br>

Thanks Martin. There's a few misnamed out there I think.
Sorry no reference as I am mobile but it's in my gallery. The common one has orange margin on the apex of elytra. There are four similar species. Obviously all mimetic. I've not seen rufipennis yet.
