Eastern Box Turtle

This fine fellow was found attempting to cross a busy suburban road. After checking him for injuries (of which he had none, thankfully), I helped him across and wished him safe travels to his destination. Adult tortoise. Brown with bright orange-yellow markings. These tortoises can close their shells to protect themselves when threatened by predators.
