Field Notes

Description:

These plants of saline coastal habitats with their special roots are the first line of defence against the rising sea and are especially good at preventing erosion during cyclones etc. Also the nooks and crannies of these roots provide safe haven for many species.

Habitat:

Where the Bay of Bengal met the coastline of Island Baratang. From far the roots seemed to make a "wall"protecting the soil from erosion.

Notes:

There are many mangrove species ...I'd love it if somebody could ID this one for me.
