Field Notes

Description:

A beautiful felty ochre-coloured moth with tinges of orange and green. Both wings show faint thin gray wavy lines and the fore wings each have two small white dots outlined by dark gray, naer the costal margin. The underside of all four wings show two similar dots each (pic 2).
This is a male moth with beautiful feathery antennae (pic 3). Wing span was about 70 mm.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve with mixed native trees.

Notes:

The caterpillars of these moths are black and covered with dense setae which cause urticaria in some. They feed on several species of wattle and on pine. <br>
