Field Notes

Description:

Small inverted orange cup with "eyelashes" fringing the rim of the cup.

Habitat:

On Baratang island enroute the only mud volcano in India, there are rickety bamboo guard rails that you touch at your own risk and lean on to certain peril. The trail about 200m long was muddy, rocky and wet because of the lashings of rain thanks to Cyclone Hudhud; I spotted this ONLY because I was paying attention to my feet. This was growing on a horizontal bamboo guard rail close to the ground but not touching it.

I first saw these on PN; am so delighted to have one of my own.

Thank you, Mark...I have updated. Yes, the location was really special too. The trip's highlights included being stuck on Havelock island...thanks to Cyclone Hudhud (named after the Hoopoe bird ) and needing to be evacuated by special vessels that transported all tourists back to Port Blair. A nice picture but this is not a Scutellinia. It is Cookeina tricholoma which is a common tropical species here in Asia.

Leuba, this was just chance that I was looking down as I walked so as not to slip! The trail was so narrow that stopping meant blocking the way...so I just took 2-3 shots with an aim and shoot...was very, very lucky that the macro came on automatically. Thanks a lot. Your encouragement means a lot.

Yes indeed VivBraznell....and it got deleted (entire folder)...you can imagine how gutted I was...my brother recovered it for me last evening and I got the pendrive back from him just now...took no chances. Uploaded it straightaway...Thanks!
