I’ve read that it has pretty much spread to all provinces of Thailand. It is considered an edible snail 😰 so one has to wonder if snail farming/cultivation has anything to do with its naturalization. And yes, once the duck gets to it, it’s game over for the snail! I like to remind people not to handle these snails because they tend to host a nematode that leads to a life threatening parasitic infection of the nervous system (rat lungworm disease).
very informative article thank you Mauna. There are often chickens and ducks in this garden so perhaps its doing well to avoid the domestic Duck which apparently sees this as a delicacy. It makes you wonder how it got to where it is now??
Your ID is correct. Check out this article: http://www.columbia.edu/itc/cerc/danoff-burg/invasion_bio/inv_spp_summ/Achatina_fulica.htm
