Description:

On a recent hike at Falls of the Ohio in Clarksville, IN, my daughter found this partial jaw bone with some very interesting teeth in the muddy bottom of the Ohio River. We'd love to know what they're from!

8-) Doc. I guess you don't get to dent many carp.
A fish!!??? I thought I would know everything about teeth, but did not think one second of a fish ;-)... Looking closer at the description there it is: Ohio River. Excellent job!
Thank you! I took a look at the link and it looks like a good ID to me. I never would've imagined those things coming from a fish. My $ was on alien! LOL Thanks so much! Now I just wish I could get that skull identified that I found in a nearby area.
possibly the pharyngeal teeth on s species of carp. grass carp maybe? heres a link, http://www.biolib.cz/en/image/id14078/
Thanks! I've added it to the Osteology mission!
Hi Duane! If you join the Osteology mission and then edit your spotting to add it to the mission, you'll increase you chances of it being seen by Project Noah users with an interest in bones: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8475425 Good luck!
Me too! A friend of mine is sending the picture to a naturalist at the Falls of the Ohio. I'll be sure to post here about any information I find out on that front, too.
Perfect, thanks! Now, I hope that we will get some IDeas...
I added several additional photos with a tape measure for perspective. Hope these help!
Do you have a picture with a scale to compare the size? Or, please, some detailed information about the size, maybe also from the length of the teeth. Maybe add some additional picture. The size info is important to get closer to the family and ruling out candidates.
