Field Notes

Description:

Generally, these crab-spiders hide themselves adapting the colour of their body to the colour of the flowers on which they are waiting for preys, a behaviour that conceal them from predators and from the pollinating preys. They adapt their colour to the flower's in a few days so I reckon it just arrived to the flower. Females are very variable in colour, their basic colour can be white, yellow pale brown or pink, sometimes with additional shades of red. This species is characterized by the prominent rear corners of the opisthosoma.

Habitat:

Spotted in an open and dry area with scattered oaks (Q. pyrenaica). Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D500. Exposure Time: 1/250 sec.; f/11; ISO Speed Rating: 635. Exposure Bias: 0 EV. Focal Length: 90.0 mm. No flash fired. DSC_4273
