Description:

First snake sighting for 2012. This little snake was on the top of one of my fence post.

Habitat:

Common ground snake. Will bite and musk if handled, but will tame down and can be gently handled.

Nice spotting. Every time I look at these photos I see a lined snake (Tropidoclonion lineatum), but it's range is central U.S. to a few parts of Illinois. Do you happen to have a belly shot of this little fellow?
