Description:

This is a mating pair of diamond-backed water snakes. The male is the smaller one. Adults breed in the spring, and gravid females give birth in the late summer or early fall. A non-venomous snake that can grow to a total length (including tail) of 76–122 cm (30–48 inches). The record total length is 180 cm (69 inches).

Habitat:

Spotted at the edge of a wetland at the Bald Knob National Wildlife Refuge.
