Field Notes

Description:

A striking Picture Wing Fly of about 1 cm in length. The thorax is reddish brown and abdomen is mostly yellow with strong spines. The wings are heavily colored in black with small windows on the lower edges of the wings and 2 sets of clear spots. Family Ulidiidae (=Otitidae).

Habitat:

Resting on a leaf, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
