Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized dragonfly, about 6 cm in wingspan. Mainly bright-red in appearance, but the head and thorax are more deep red. Wings have bright red veins, dark brown pterostigmas and orange makings at their bases.

Habitat:

Common African dropwing, found throughout the continent in proximity to slowly-moving streams or stagnant waters. Here, observed in such environment in urban area, a park in central Abuja.
