Field Notes

Description:

It is a medium-sized bird with 32-38 cm long and 300-320 g peso.Tem spurs in the angle of the wings, used as attack and defense weapon. Has fringed black plumage of white on the forehead and throat, and a broad black chest area. The crown and sides of the neck to the back, is gray and can have a shade of brown or blue. The shoulder blades are bronze, external wing feathers are shades of gray on the body to the white, ending in a dark blue. Inside the wings are white with dark edges of the same tone. The tail repeats the same pattern, but has a thin white band at the end. The abdomen is white, the iris of the eye is red, the nozzle goes from red to black at the tip, and the legs are reddish. It has a thin plume of gray or black color in the back of the head

Habitat:

This bird is typical of South America, found from Argentina to the Amazon. Inhabits the large prairie wetlands and shores of rivers and lakes.
