Description:
The main purpose of this post is to announce that the 2012 dragonfly season has started at Huntley Meadows Park! Green Darners were spotted by park naturalists for the first time on 12 March 2012. "It is one of the few North American dragonflies that migrates and is therefore most common in the spring and fall." Source Credit: http://www.odonatacentral.org/index.php/FieldGuideAction.get/id/45009 Green Darners perch rarely. Small flying insects are very difficult to photograph on the wing. The photo gallery features two versions of the best photo I shot during a two-day period -- not a great shot but far better than tens of other bad photos I took.
Habitat:
Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/
