Field Notes

Description:

Update on a female Sago palm at a nearby business. The seeds inside the cone (called a megasporophyll) are maturing and gaps have developed in the protecting leaves around them. My earlier visit was in August, here's what it looked like then: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/37660058.
