Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Baorini; Parnara kawazoie Chiba & Eliot 1991. I am pretty sure that this species is correctly identified, but I have had moments of doubt because I only managed to get this one photo. So, obviously, I cannot see the markings anywhere other than those on postdiscal cells 2,3,4 & 5 on the underside of the rear wing. On viewing many images, I can see slight variation in these four irregular spots and that is probably alright. The problem is the surfaces I cannot see. This just emphasizes that it is better to get more photos whenever possible.

Habitat:

I spotted this Skipper in our vegetable plot, nectaring on Sponge Gourd (Luffa acutangula) locally known as Patola.

Notes:

I have some more pictures which I think are the same species (taken near the same vegetable plot a few days later than this spotting). So I will review them and perhaps use them in another spotting if I feel that it might help support this identification.
