Not an expert! To me it looks most like the suggested ID above. Looks too large and thick for Enodia sp. to me.
Thanks for correcting my the ID Mauna. I need to stick to things I know :-)
Wow, identifying this caterpillar has generated quite a buzz! Respectfully, please also consider Enodia anthedon, or (less likely) Satyrodes eurydice. These are horned caterpillars found in the region. Nice job looking into this, Tukup and thanks for drawing attention to this spotting!
Hi Dawn. I believe the link I sent will show your caterpillar. It also says, " I am uncertain whether they are Acronicta vinnula (common throughout the eastern US) or Acronicta lepetita (native to southern Texas, and so closely resembles A. vinnula that I am unsure how to tell them apart)." So until a way to tell them apart is made, it will have to remain Acronicta sp. Beautiful caterpillar. Thanks for sharing.
A very beautiful caterpillar....three, very beautiful, caterpillar photos....
Thank you Jellis. After a little more research I am thinking Asterocampa leilia.
This could be either a Northern Pearly-eye (Enodia anthedon) or a Asterocampa leilia - Empress Leilia
