I don't see a lot of snakes and this is a new one for me. I wish the pics had turned out a bit better

Thanks Ashley. I went back and forth on this one.
Not sure where my ID suggestion I made yesterday went, but this isn't a prairie king snake. Prairie king snakes would not have that square of blotches, and have a completely different head pattern. This is a juvenile western rat snake.
Nice find, and a useful neighbor to have; they are non-venomous, eat rodents and also eat other snakes.
