Field Notes

Description:

Tendril bearing annual vine, it has pale yellow, deeply veined flowers and round, somewhat warty, bright orange fruits, or "apples".

Notes:

Edible fruit, regardless of what you read online, it's not poisonous, I've eaten this fruit many times, the green fruit can be cut, deep fried, made in stews, soups, tossed in salads and the ripe fruit can be eaten raw, if you don't mind the bitterness of the rind. The red pulp is sweet and the seeds, save them so you can grow more.
