Field Notes

Description:

One of my favourite native wildflowers, these ones had the elongated flower bud and the full flower out at the same time.

Habitat:

Found backlit by the late afternoon sun beside the trail at the Beaver Pond, Manning Park, BC, North Cascade Mountain range.

Notes:

Old superstition that smelling the tiger lily will give you freckles! probably cause of the spots on the flower petals. The bulbs were eaten by the Coast Salish fresh, dried, steamed etc. Said to have a peppery taste. For more info on harvesting these bulbs, check out Plants of Coastal BC by Pojar and McKinnon. Best guide to take to the wilds with you!
