Stains easily. Pine like smell. Comes from tree with thin leaves.

Habitat:

Santa Barbara. Near live oaks

Would you by any chance have a photo of the leaves ? No expert here, but try black walnut (unripe fruit). I know they stain and I've only known the smell of green walnut and it is just beautiful ! Can't remember it smelling like pine though. I am intrigued -hope you find out what it is. http://waynesword.palomar.edu/ecoph8.htm
