Field Notes

Description:

A medium size bird, brown in color at back & wings, white on belly and black neck.

Habitat:

Spotted in Yogjakarta, this specimen has his nest on a Frangipani tree on a garden.
The Javan munia is a species of estrildid finch found in Southern Sumatra, Java, Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. Introduced in Singapore and S Malay Peninsula; possibly introduced in Sumatra. It is found in subtropical/ tropical dry shrubland and grassland habitat.

They are known to feed on algae

Notes:

The status of the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
