Description:

This is a tortoise beetle larvae (Cassidinae). Really strange. This is my first time finding one. It has a defense mecanism where the "tail" or apendix protects the body when threatened

muy buenas imagenes, gran trabajo fotografico Diaz José Miguel! Felicidades!
Great spotting, Miguel. That tail is built with the larva's feaces. According to Prof. Dr. Zundir, a brazilian expert in tortoise beetles, that mechanism increases the protection of the larva against predatory wasps up to 70%!!!
Sip a mi me encanta, aparte que a luego de haber encontrado este ya pude indentificar mejor las larvas de escarabajos tortuga!
Whoa Fyn! are you positive!? I love Tortoise beetles and there are plenty of them near this spotting so it does make sence... this is my first time finding a larva
