Description:
An adult male, distinguished by his bony forehead, known as as a sagittal crest, females have a much smaller forehead and are much lighter in color. California sea lions are distinguished from Harbor seals with their external ear flap and dog like muzzle. Even though they have fearsome canine teeth (pic 2) (used primarily to grab fish), sea lions typically swallow their fish whole.
Habitat:
Spotted at the North Jetty at Ocean Shore, Wa. along with several others. Ranges along the western coast and islands of North America, from southeast Alaska to central Mexico
Notes:
Their whiskers are used to detect the vibrations of prey.
