Field Notes

Description:

Small sunbird with extra long beak and tongue which it uses to suck nectar from flowers. Iridescent blue and purple. Hovering behavior over flowers. This is a male. Females are dull brown colored. Uses the raindrops on leaves from previous night's rain to have a good bath!!

Habitat:

Spotted on a tree near my home.
